Who is this little man? His outfit harkens back to a different time when men wore hats and women wore gloves. We don’t find this image of a paper doll dated. Grace and elegance are timeless. The use of our Poem Cellar iconic image on the Cabernet Franc label is to showcase our approach to this varietal. Our goal is to craft a wine that is elegant and celebratory. Our Cabernet Franc complements, rather than competes with our Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2008 Poem Cellars Cabernet Franc is a lush and vibrant expression of the varietal showing ripe blue fruit highlights, a rich texture to the body and lingering expression of spice on the finish. Our Cabernet Franc is blended but we have limited the amount of Cabernet Sauvignon to a small percentage, adding a bit of structure, but allowing the elegance of Cabernet Franc to speak.

Fruit sourced from a single dry framed vineyard in St. Helena. 100% new French oak barrels. The cepage is 95% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

2008 Tastevin Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Historically, a tastevin is a silver tasting cup with a faceted surface reflecting light through the wine to judge color and clarity in a candle-lit cellar. Symbolically, a tastevin is a badge representing the skill and experience of a wine taster. We use our skills to craft wines of quality and value.

The 2008 Poem Cellars Tastevin Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine bursting with ripe, dark fruit and compelling spice notes. The fruit is integrated and balanced by good acidity. On the nose; black currants, black plum, dried herbs, black olive, orange peel and black pepper. On the tongue; ripe black and red currant, sour plum, blackberry and baked cherry fruits.

The wine is sourced from two St. Helena vineyards. 15% new French oak barrels. The cépage is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc.

2006 MARRiaGE Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2006 Poem Cellars Marriage is an elegant and powerful wine. 206 cases were produced. The nose is evocative with ripe red fruits, black plum, Christmas spices and herbal notes. On the tongue, red and blue fruits, bitter chocolate and pine needle with a whisper of licorice. With these dusty earth, tobacco, leather notes, the wine showcases the breeding of the vineyard. There is a fleshiness to the wine, it is full in body and the tannins are moderate but persistent. Rutherford Bench Cabernet Sauvignon. 60% new oak barrels and 40% one-year-old barrels. The composition is 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3.5% Cabernet Franc and .5% Petite Verdot.

2007 ELOPE Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Who needs a big ceremony when you have the one you love? Of course, you don’t have to run off in the middle of the night to have fun. Elope is our impulsive label, it’s the wine we can’t wait any longer to enjoy.

The 2007 Poem Cellars Elope is an elegant and powerful wine sourced from a single vineyard in St Helena. The nose is evocative with ripe red and blue fruits, black plum, black coffee, leather and herbal notes. On the tongue, cassis, cherry, lead pencil, cocoa nib, hibiscus tea, moss with a whisper of black licorice. With these dusty earth notes and soft tannins, Elope showcases the breeding of the vineyard. The fruit is high toned and lush, the body is fleshy and full, the tannins are moderate and the wine offers a 40 second finish. The composition is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc. 60% new oak barrels and 40% one-year-old barrels.

The 2008 Poem Cellars Engaged is a full-bodied wine that strikes a balance of bright lush fruit with acidity and good structure. On the nose the wine offers sweet lush red fruits, cherry and plum with subtle notes of dried hibiscus. The aromas of cinnamon and fresh violets are layered with hints of dried tobacco and green peppercorn. On the tongue; cassis, blueberries, black cherry, red and black raspberries, coffee beans, mocha, black pepper. Clove, nutmeg, and fresh sage enliven the tasting. We recommend decanting.

Fruit sourced from vineyards in St. Helena. The Cabernet Sauvignon is clone 337 and clone 7. The cépage of the wine is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. 85% new French oak barrels and 15% one-year-old barrels.
